What Is the Claude Code Tool? A Clear Overview
Claude Code is Anthropic's command-line tool that lets Claude work directly inside your terminal and codebase. Questions
Is Claude Code the same as ChatGPT's code interpreter? No. Code interpreter runs code in a sandbox during a chat session. Claude Code operates on your actual local repository through the terminal, with direct file editing and shell access, and is meant for ongoing development work rather than a single sandboxed session.
Do I need an API key to use Claude Code? Claude Code authenticates through your Anthropic account access, not through the general-purpose Messages API.
